We met our school Accelerated Reader practice goal!
- Our Goal: More than 70% of our students would meet 100% of their individual AR goal.
- Current Level (12/15am): 73.17% have met 100% of their AR goal. Winning class:
Right now Mrs. Seaman's advisory team has 100% who have met their goal. So it looks like they will be the honored stylists.
However, there are at least 2 classes that are just 1 or 2 students away from having 100%. I will give until the end of 7th period to notify me if your class ties, and we need to draw names.
Excellent reading!
The Most Important Thing:
We are reading a lot more. That makes a difference. I ran a report that estimates the number of words our students read this quarter, compared to the same students during quarter two of last school year. Last year we read about eleven and a half million words during quarter 2. This year the same group of kids read about 32 million words during quarter two. That is 2.79 times more. That will make a difference.
Why do I do this? That is certainly a good question. Some students have reminded me that, at my age, it might not grow back. My family thinks it is a little crazy. I do it because reading matters. Becoming a better reader has the potential to significantly improve the lives of our students. It opens doors of opportunities. I know that the secret to becoming a better reader is to practice. The most effective reading practice happens right around a student's current reading level. They gain the most from that level of practice that is not too easy and not too hard.
Looking forward to an excellent haircut tomorrow. I know you have been scheming the perfect do. Unfortunately, I think you have been spending your time practicing your reading skills instead of your hair styling skills.
The haircut will be in the gym tomorrow before lunch.
